Luck is when opportunity knocks and you answer
- because you have been expecting the visit!
~ Tina J Costello

Did you know you
can
create your own luck?
All the authors on this website have been reminding
us how "Luck" works for over a hundred
years. We know there are some individuals who seem to have an inexplicable
abundance of good fortune. They are successful in matters of love, in their careers, in their finances, and in leading happy and meaningful lives. Yet these people don't seem to work particularly hard, nor do they posses extraordinary intelligence or other gifts. Of course there are also the natural opposites of the
super fortunate; people who repeatedly fail despite their efforts and talents.
As is true with so many human problems, people tend deal with this difficult-to-quantify inequality by giving it a
name "luck" and then disclaiming any responsibility for how much of it they are
apportioned. Luck is considered by many to be a force of nature, coming and going as inevitably as the tide. But
more recently Richard Wiseman, a professor at Britain's University of Hertfordshire, conducted some experiments which indicate to him that we have a lot more influence on our own good fortune than we
realise, and brought him into line with our favourite
authors.
Professor Wiseman executed a ten-year study to determine the nature of luck, and published his findings in a book called
"The Luck Factor: The Scientific Study of the Lucky
Mind" (2003).
Professor Wiseman outlined four principles to help one increase their good fortune:
Principle One: Maximise Chance Opportunities
Lucky people are skilled at creating, noticing and acting upon chance opportunities. They do this in various ways, including networking, adopting a relaxed attitude to life and by being open to new experiences.
Principle Two: Listening to Lucky Hunches
Lucky people make effective decisions by listening to their intuition and gut feelings. In addition, they take steps to actively boost their intuitive abilities by, for example, meditating and clearing their mind of other thoughts.
Principle Three: Expect Good Fortune
Lucky people are certain that the future is going to be full of good fortune. These expectations become self-fulfilling prophecies by helping lucky people persist in the face of failure, and shape their interactions with others in a positive way.
Principle Four: Turn Bad Luck to Good
Lucky people employ various psychological techniques to cope with, and often even thrive upon, the ill fortune that comes their way. For example, they spontaneously imagine how things could have been worse, do not dwell on the ill fortune, and take control of the situation.
Can you see the pattern
forming here? Does this sound familiar? If you have
read or listened to any of our Audio
and Book range, you will have noticed the
similarity of his findings and the the teachings of William
Atkinson, Wallace D Wattles
and Napoleon Hill. Professor Wiseman
says, "Lucky people are CERTAIN that the future is going to be full of good fortune.
These expectations become self-fulfilling prophecies
..."
Unsurprisingly, optimism plays a key role in
luckiness, since it strongly affects luck production and
luck perception. Wiseman's study shows that a lucky, optimistic person is far more satisfied with all areas of their lives than an unlucky, pessimistic person. An optimist feels lucky for spotting a silver lining, however
grey the cloud… yet a pessimist will curse their luck even in the face of good fortune, because they can't see past the green grass on the other side of the fence.
Fortunately, one's mindset is entirely within one's control. An unlucky person who resolves to change their luck can become more social; they can make a conscious effort to be optimistic and make the best of any situation; and they can be more open to new ideas and experiences. In short, if you go looking for luck, you'll probably find it… or so says the professor. With any luck, he's right.
You create your own
luck based on how you think and how you see life.
You create what you believe,
so you must seize control of your thoughts and see
the good in all situations.
Give thanks for all you have and make it a daily
habit to look for lucky events, no matter how small.
Doing this will train your mind to believe that you are
lucky and attract more positive events into your life.
Tips
You set spiritual
forces in motion with every thought, action and word.
If you send love out, you get it back. If you send
out ill feelings, this is what yo will receive. To
create luck in your life you need to GIVE with an OPEN
HEART. This means that you are open to
receive luck not from just one source, but as many as you
can.
Tips
|
|
Be of genuine
service to yourself and others, and reap rewards. |
Be
happy - people who are happy attract more
luck. Project that something will go wrong and
generally it does. No matter what happens to you
during your day, make a conscious effort to keep smiling
and be happy. It might not be easy at first.
Keep 'faking' it until it becomes automatic ... it will!
Tips
|
|
Realise
that YOU are the CAPTAIN of your own life. |
|
Let go of
worry - DECIDE to be happy RIGHT NOW! |
Day
One
Be
Friendly
Showing
kindness to others opens your heart. Being
someone who others like to be around is the key to luck.
It's the phone call from a friend saying, "I have been
thinking of you, is there anything I can do to help you?",
or the offer of a spare concert ticket and the job hook-up that
comes at just the right time.

Look For Lucky Opportunities
Lucky
people seize their opportunities. The
Universe is always listening, so don't dismiss things that
seem coincidental. Explore the possibility that luck was
listening and came knocking.

Luck
Loves Variety
Luck
rarely travels a well-worn track with no room for change.
It loves to be discovered on unusual trails. Be
inspired to act on impulse. Changing the routine of
your day lets you be in the right place at the right time.
Lessen your rigidity, try different
approaches. In short, change the way you do
things. We are all creatures of habit - but that means we always
get the same result. When you want luck to step into
your life you need to be open to change.
Luck can change your life in an instant - so be ready to welcome
it with open arms!
Tips
|
|
BE
FLEXIBLE, do things out of the ordinary. |
|
TRY NEW
EXPERIENCES, such as going to work a different
way, e.g. bus instead of train, or driving a
different route. Perhaps you could shop in a
different shopping centre, or do your daily walk
with the dog around a different park? |

Gifts
of Luck
Lucky
people have a resilient attitude. This
lets them turn seemingly bad luck into good by focusing on
what went RIGHT, and how things could have been
worse. It also lets them be thankful
and look at the positive side of the situation.
This helps them learn from experience and not repeat
mistakes. A closed heart blocks luck.
When you forgive, you release negative energy that has
been holding you hostage to the past. While you
don't have to excuse the behaviour, forgive to create
peace in your own heart. You
become the victor, not the victim.
Tips
|
|
Don't
dwell on the past. |

Look for
POSITIVES in EVERYTHING. |

Intuition
Let
intuition be your good-luck guide. Lucky
people take notice when the intuition strikes. They
trust what they hear, feel or know is correct and have the
faith to take action. Create time for intuitive
impulses to surface by calming your mind through
relaxation or meditation.
Tips

LISTEN
to your inner voice |
|
Create
quiet times during your day and encourage guidance
to come through to you. |

Creating
Lucky Energy In The Home
Luck
likes to fill up spaces, so clear the
clutter. Donate unused items to charity or
friends. Display photos of family and friends in
your home to remind you that you have love and support in
your life. People love to see photos of themselves
and this adds to the positive environment. Gifts and
children's art create especially good vibes. Display
gifts and awards to remind you that you were
well-regarded, and lucky to receive them. These can
be put out at different times to create that element of
changing vibrancy in your home.

Pot Of Gold
To enhance
your luck, create your own Pot of Gold
at the end of the rainbow.
WHAT
YOU WILL NEED:
|
A pot big enough to hold your plant,
soil and your symbols of good luck |
 |
|
A small jade plant - or any other
succulent |
|
Small pieces of ribbon in these
rainbow colours - red, orange, yellow, green,
blue, indigo and violet |
|
A gold coin |
Make your pot with a happy
air of optimism and write your wishes on the respective
ribbons as follows:
Bury the ribbons and your coin
in the soil then place your plant over the top. Then, as
your plant grows, so will your luck.
This could be an activity you do for yourself, or you could involve your children who could make their own.
The secret of its success does not only lie within the Pot of
Gold, but also within your thoughts as you water and nurture the plant. As each of the Pots are lovingly cared for, you will be visualising yourself living the wishes you have written on the
ribbons. Don't forget to include as much feeling
and emotion as possible in
your visualisations. It is also a good idea to have the children draw a
picture of their Pot of Gold
including the coloured ribbons containing their written wishes, and placing it somewhere they can regularly see it. Not only will it encourage them to care for their own
Pot of Gold, but also with their
visualising. You could take a photo of your own to jog your memory.
